Arlette Romero Saavedra

Arlette Saavedra Romero works in the Ministry of Health in Mexico as the director of Strategies and Development of Healthy Settings, head of the National Laboratory of Risk Communication, and a professor and thesis advisor in the medical residency of preventive medicine and epidemiology.

She has been trained in infodemic management by World Health Organization and belongs to the Infodemic Management Network. She is also part of the Global Immunization Action Network.

She is a graduate of the Dr. Ignacio Chávez School of Medicine of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo with a master’s degree in medical education from the School of Public Health of Cuba; master’s in public health with a concentration in epidemiology from the National Institute of Public Health of Mexico; doctor in public health from National Institute of Public Health of Mexico with an emphasis in global health and health systems.

In addition, she has obtained excellence scholarships from the Ministry of Health and Global Health Fellowship for academic stay at McMaster University in Canada.

She has worked in the Ministry of Health in various functions and positions over the years and has also consulted at the University of Costa Rica on health promotion.

She has received international training course grant from the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme for Public Health Policy and Management Program, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency for Lifestyle-related Disease Prevention training program.

Her areas of interest are health systems, global health, social determinants of health, the use of scientific evidence in public health programs and policies, epidemiological surveillance, risk communication and infodemic management.
