Youth, those aged 25 and younger, represent the future of our field and the world and are particularly encouraged to submit proposals.
The Summit seeks to proactively elevate voices from lower- and middle-income countries, so submissions from non-Western organizations, groups, and individuals are strongly encouraged.
In addition to the themes and subthemes outlined here, the organizing committee has identified six session formats that submitters may consider when preparing their proposals:

Proposals will be submitted online and may be written in the three main conference languages of English, French or Spanish. Due to software limitations, we cannot accept online submissions in Arabic, but can make separate arrangements for review of Arabic language proposals upon request. Please note that webinars are available in English, French, Arabic and Spanish to help submitters prepare their proposals. Sign up to receive updates about future webinars here.
In selecting proposals for the Summit program, the Program Sub-Committee will take the following general criteria into consideration:
- Alignment with conference themes
- Relevance to SBCC programs and importance to the field
- Clarity of content
- Ability of the proposal to result in new insights, perspectives and/or partnerships for the SBCC field.
- Potential for audience learning, experience/knowledge sharing, skills building, discussion/debate
- Appropriateness of the proposed format for the proposed content
Within each of these formats, submitters are encouraged to think creatively about how their proposals can best engage Summit participants to think critically, share knowledge and experience, learn from each other and shape the future of SBCC. These formats and some innovative variations are described in greater detail here.
We accept proposals from:
Please note that this is a new call for abstracts and that abstracts accepted for the postponed 2020 Summit are not automatically accepted to the 2022 Summit. Abstracts that were previously accepted must be updated with relevant new information or data before being resubmitted and re-evaluated for the 2022 event. To access a previously accepted abstract, please visit Communication Initiative.
Feel free to submit as many proposals as you like, but know that in the interest of achieving the broadest possible representation and participation in the Summit, the Program Sub-Committee will not select more than two submissions from any one person as lead author or session organizer.
The deadline for submissions was April 3, 2022. We are no longer accepting abstracts.
