BudgIT

Oluseun Onigbinde is a leading advocate for fiscal transparency, open data, and civic engagement, widely recognized for his work advancing accountable governance in Nigeria and across the globe. 

After a few years in the banking sector, he co-founded BudgIT, Africa’s leading civic-tech organization focused on making public finance data accessible and actionable. Under his leadership, BudgIT has become a pioneer in fiscal transparency and data visualization, operating across Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Senegal, and the United States. The organization has reached more than 32 million citizens and continues to support civil society organizations and public institutions in driving reform. 

BudgIT tracks and publicizes government spending to strengthen accountability at both national and subnational levels. Its work combines civic-tech innovation, stakeholder engagement, and citizen mobilization to improve transparency and strengthen public sector performance. 

Oluseun holds degrees from Loyola College and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and has completed executive education at institutions including Stanford University and Columbia University, where he was an Obama Foundation Scholar. He earned a master’s degree in international policy and practice from George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs in 2024 and is currently a doctoral student at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), focusing on AI-driven fiscal efficiency and governance reform. 

He has spoken at major global platforms including Chatham House, the Open Government Partnership Summits, and the Skoll Foundation Summit, and his work has been featured in CNN, The New York Times, and The Guardian. 

Beyond his professional work, Oluseun founded the Oluseun Onigbinde Resource Centre to support community development initiatives. He serves as Chair of Citizens’ Gavel and sits on the boards of SustyVibes and Eduplana, alongside active engagement in humanitarian efforts through the Ikeja Dynamic Lions Club. 

His leadership has been widely recognized. He has been named one of Africa’s Top 50 Disruptors by The Africa Report, a Gates Foundation Goalkeeper, an Aspen New Voices Fellow, an Ashoka Fellow, and the winner of the 2012 Future Africa Prize for Technology, among other honors.
